Decorative Broadcast: What It Is and Why Businesses Need It

decorative broadcast

Many industries incorporate decorative broadcast into their workspace. Decorative broadcast comes in a variety of designs and colors and restores worn-down concrete floors. Concrete floors naturally wear down over time as a result of dirt, debris, mud, routine spills, and foot traffic. Decorative broadcast can help restore your concrete floor and comes with additional benefits that help create a safer environment for employees and visitors.

Here’s everything you need to know about decorative broadcast, including why your commercial business needs it.

What is Decorative Broadcast?

Decorative broadcast is a type of monolithic epoxy resurfacer. The application of an epoxy resurfacer to existing concrete ultimately makes it safer and improves its otherwise run-down appearance. In the flooring industry, “monolithic” refers to a foundation that is created from a single layer of concrete. In this case, you can apply the decorative broadcast to your existing concrete floor in a single layer. This keeps labor costs down, which means you keep more money in your pocket.

Types of Decorative Broadcast

As mentioned above, decorative broadcast comes in a variety of colors and designs. These designs often feature colored flakes or quartz aggregates for a pop of style. Furthermore, you can have the texture of decorative broadcast customized to be either smooth or moderate, so you have flexibility to get what you want.

If you’re looking for decorative broadcast, there are four main types to choose from:

  • Random broadcast: As the name suggests, a random broadcast involves scattering colored flakes on the surface, rather than covering the floor completely. With random broadcast, you tend to get more pigmented color because it allows the coat of epoxy to really shine.
  • Full broadcast: Unlike random broadcast, a full broadcast is when a coat of epoxy is applied to a concrete floor and colored flakes are sprinkled throughout the surface. Once the epoxy dries, a final topcoat is applied. Full broadcast is one of the most popular designs due to its final appearance, which gives off a granite-like look.
  • Decorative quartz broadcast: As we mentioned above, decorative broadcast can incorporate quartz aggregates, which is another popular and durable choice for many industries, including hospitals. Quartz aggregates and epoxy resin mix together before application to the concrete floor.
  • Cementitious urethane: Urethane products are useful because they tend to be resistant to chemicals and abrasion. Plus, they’re slip-resistant, which is great for offsetting accidental slips and falls. Cementitious urethane is no different. This is a non-porous coating that is resistant to chemicals and other types of debris. You can top a cementitious urethane coating with decorative broadcast and quartz aggregates, so you get the best of both worlds.

Benefits

Besides appearance, decorative broadcast offers a lot of benefits. It’s easy to clean and can stand up to industries that experience medium foot traffic. This makes them perfect for healthcare industries, pharmaceutical plants and laboratories, and product showrooms.

How Long Does Decorative Broadcast Last?

On average, a concrete overlay such as decorative broadcast can last between 10 and 25 years, depending on how well it’s maintained. Once you install it, make sure to regularly dry dust mop your floor. This will help get rid of dirt, grime, grease, and other debris that could potentially wear down your floor’s surface.

We also recommend that you avoid harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia when you deep clean your floors. While bleach won’t necessarily harm your floor’s surface, concrete is naturally porous so it could absorb the strong odors that come along with these types of products. Instead, opt for a mild cleaner like dish soap.

Why Your Commercial Business Needs It

Floors make or break a first impression. If your concrete floors are run-down or scuffed up, it could negatively impact your company’s reputation in terms of quality service and products. Not only does decorative broadcast help combat this kind of situation, but it makes conditions safer for staff to use or move heavy machinery.
