Moisture Control

All concrete flooring faces the challenge of moisture because of concrete’s natural porosity. If your commercial or industrial concrete flooring shows signs of moisture control, such as moisture vapor transmission, Blair Duron can provide the right solutions to combat this.

Newer industrial buildings can prevent moisture vapor transmission by installing a below slab barrier. These are generally 100% virgin resin. They are manufactured in a multi-layer or co-extruded film, so all the resins are linked together. Once we install the under-slab barrier at the site, we can pour the cement foundation and begin the curing process.

In older buildings, it is likely there is no below slab barrier. Over time, the underground water table may rise. Since concrete is porous, this water will rise and present itself on the flooring surface, potentially requiring major repairs. Some of the solutions Blair Duron can provide include:

  • Shot blasting concrete floors and the installation of a moisture mitigating epoxy coating at 15–20 mils provides moisture protection so you can install soft flooring. Epoxy products are available that in addition to resolving the moisture transmission, provide thermal insulation, extra strength in high traffic areas, and help reduce noise.
  • Applying an epoxy primer/sealer is the most versatile option. The epoxy moisture barrier will cure in 5–12 hours. After curing, you can install decorative chip, decorative quartz, terrazzo, rubber, or rubberized terrazzo.
